Football associations and sport events have flourished in Negros Island over the past decade. Bacolod has been dubbed the country’s football capital, as local and international tournaments take place in the area annually. Months ago, TQVS staff announced plans to organise its very own league to participate in various events in the region. This effort led to establishing new connections, one of which is the Negros Island Rugby Club (NIR). Recently, the NIR has invited TQVS to partake in the upcoming rugby event to be held on October 27-28, 2018 at the University of St. La Salle Football Field.
This momentous occasion is going to be the first time for Negros to hold a rugby tournament. Anne Marice Sajorner, Regional Development Officer of the Rugby Football Union, explains that the event is in cooperation with the Department of Education and made possible through the New Zealand Aid program, “Rugby- A Sport for All.” The program is an initiative that provides sports opportunities for the community youth in Negros. It also aims to equip coaches with the basic training for them to teach young athletes in their respective schools.
Organisers expect delegates from other provinces like Iloilo and Davao besides the homeland players and trainers. Telequest representatives will definitely grace this monumental event. We feel honoured to be one of the official sponsors of the first ever ‘Get Into Rugby Festival’ and will continue supporting football club formations in the region. TQVS congratulates the organisers for their dedication to uplifting the rural youth by inspiring them to engage in sports activities. We wish you more successful rugby seasons in the coming years.
